How We Turn Reviews Into A Score
We do not average star ratings — Amazon no longer exposes numeric ratings or review counts through its API, so we do not show or rely on a single number. Instead our editors read across the body of owner feedback for a category and score each product on the factors above using a consistent scale. Recurring praise and recurring complaints carry more weight than outliers, and reports from owners who have lived with a product through a full season count for more than day-one impressions.
Category-Specific Signals
- Outdoor lights: weatherproof (IP) rating, cord and plug quality, brightness, whether owners report failures after one winter.
- Trees: branch construction, tip count and material, stand stability, pre-lit bulb replaceability and fuse access.
- Smart & app-controlled: app reliability, connection stability, effect quality, firmware and update history.
- Wreaths, garlands & decor: fullness, materials, battery/timer behavior, and how they store and hold up year to year.
Re-Ranking & Freshness
Guides are revisited as new owner feedback accumulates and as products are discontinued or replaced. Prices and stock are pulled live from Amazon’s Creators API and stamped with the time last checked, so what you see is current rather than a figure typed in months ago.

It is not first-hand lab testing — we are transparent that we rank by aggregated owner reviews and expert consensus, not by installing every product ourselves.
