Don't forget the tree stand and topper
The height printed on the box is the tree only — it doesn't include the stand or the topper, and both add up. A stand typically raises the tree 3 to 6 inches off the floor, and a star or angel topper can add another 6 to 12 inches. So a 7.5-foot tree in a stand with a star can effectively stand close to 8.5 feet. Add the stand and topper to the tree height, then compare that total against your ceiling and aim to keep 6 to 12 inches of clearance.
Width, diameter and footprint matter as much as height
A tree has two dimensions that fight for your space: height against the ceiling and diameter (its "footprint") against the floor.
