How to calculate your electricity cost in kilowatt-hours
The formula is short. Add the total watts of your display, divide by 1,000 to convert to kilowatts, multiply by the hours you run them, and multiply by your electricity rate. The U.S. average residential rate is roughly $0.17 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), though yours may differ. As a worked example: a 200-watt display run 6 hours a night for 30 days equals 200 × 6 × 30 = 36,000 watt-hours, or 36 kWh, which at $0.17 is about $6.10 for the season.

LED vs. incandescent wattage per 100 bulbs
The gap between LED and incandescent is the whole story. An LED mini strand draws about 4 to 6 watts per 100 bulbs. An incandescent mini strand draws about 40. That is eight to ten times more. Larger bulbs widen the gap. An LED C7 or C9 uses 7 to 10 watts per 100. An incandescent C9 can draw 500 watts or more.
