About Merry Lights Guide
Honest research over hype, one category at a time.
Started With A String Of Lights That Died On Day Two
Merry Lights Guide started the way most good things do — with a budget string of outdoor lights that went half-dark two nights after going up, a "best of" list that clearly did not match what owners were actually saying, and a stubborn refusal to get fooled again. We are a small crew of researchers and homeowners who got tired of rankings written by people who never read a single owner review.
So we built the site we wanted to read: deep research across thousands of real owner reviews, honest scores, and zero patience for marketing fluff. If a well-known brand's lights disappoint owners after one winter outdoors, we say so. If a lesser-known one consistently outperforms it, we say that too.
We Read The Reviews, You Do Not Have To
Every product we recommend is weighed against thousands of real owner reviews, expert write-ups and long-term ratings. We track brightness, weatherproofing, bulb life and value, then score on a consistent scale.
Independence First
Brands do not pay for good rankings here and never will. Our verdicts come from independent research — real owner reviews and expert consensus, never a brand’s marketing copy — and every product gets the same honest scoring, no exceptions.
For Homeowners, By Editors Who Take The Holidays Seriously
We write for the person deciding what to put on their own roofline or living room, not for a search engine. Plain language, clear comparisons, and the practical detail that actually helps you choose.
Our 4-Step Research Routine
1. Gather the reviews — we pull together owner reviews and expert write-ups from across the web. 2. Read & analyze — we work through what buyers consistently report after a season outdoors or a few years in the attic. 3. Weigh & value — weatherproofing, bulb life, brightness and price against rivals. 4. Verdict & score — a clear recommendation with who it is for and who should skip it.

Our Values, In Plain English
We started Merry Lights Guide because we were tired of three things: rankings that read like sales brochures, buying guides that skipped the fine print on weatherproofing, and "experts" who clearly had never read a single owner complaint. So we built a site around a few simple commitments and we hold ourselves to them on every single page.
Honesty over hype. If a product is mediocre, we say so — even when it would be easier, and more profitable, to gush. Practical over perfect. Our guides are written for real homes, real budgets and real winters, not showroom conditions. Respect for your time and money. We would rather publish one genuinely useful, thoroughly researched hub than ten rewritten spec sheets.
Where are we headed? More brand-vs-brand comparisons, more beginner-friendly install guides, and a growing library of use-case rankings you can trust. We are a small crew, but we are obsessive about getting the ranking right, and we read every message that lands in our inbox. Thanks for reading, and welcome to the front porch.
